Engineering Majors

The College of Engineering offers 12 engineering majors. All of these programs are ABET accredited.

Aerospace Engineering

Aerospace engineers design and develop airplanes, rockets and spacecraft.

Biosystems Engineering

Biosystems engineers design systems for the production, processing and use of food, fiber, and biological and biochemical products. They are also involved with water and environmental resources.

Chemical Engineering

Chemical engineers deal with a wide range of processes, including those involving chemicals, oil or semiconductor manufacturing, biological systems and environmental remediation.

Civil Engineering

Civil engineers design and build buildings, bridges, roads, tunnels, power plants and many other vital structures and systems.

Electrical and Computer Engineering

Electrical engineers design and build electrical and electronic systems and devices. Computer engineers work on hardware and software related to computers and computer systems.

Engineering Management

Engineering management combines engineering and business courses to prepare students for management positions with technology-based companies.

Industrial Engineering

Industrial engineers work in many areas of workplace and job design, such as production planning, quality assurance, facility planning, and information management.

Optical Sciences & Engineering

Optical engineering involves optical design, fabrication and testing.

Materials Sciences and Engineering

Materials engineering involves studying and applying new materials, including metals, ceramics, glasses, polymers, semiconductors, composites and optical materials.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineers design automobile components, biomedical systems, robots, machine tools and many other mechanical systems.

Mining Engineering

Mining engineers work on all aspects of mining and also plan and supervise excavations associated with construction, tunnels and environmental projects. Geological engineers work in the petroleum, mining, hazardous waste, geotechnical and construction industries.

Systems Engineering

Systems engineers model, analyze and design advanced systems. These systems can include machines, people, software, hardware, materials and energy.
